Press Release Summary: Save electricity if you\'re still using CRT monitors with
Wattoogle\'s Google based search engine.

Press Release Body: April 21, 2008 - Wattoogle - the black search engine powered by
Google is created to spread awareness among net savvy individuals about the amount
of electricity they can save by switching over to a black background CRT monitor.
Energy conservation through usage of efficient tools is an indispensable component
of international efforts in order to slow global warming and to put off the
potentially disastrous effects of climate change, which is mainly caused due to the
increase in the amount of atmospheric carbon dioxide levels.

It is true, we all care for our environment, but we are so busy with our every day
routine that we do not find the time to take those precautionary steps to save our
environment from the huge disaster - Global Warming. Wattoogle emphasizes that if
about 40% of the energy consumed by telecommunications and office equipments in the
United States employ power management techniques, nearly 23 TWh/year of energy
savings is possible. If this concept is implemented worldwide, then enormous amount
of electricity can be saved which would result in at least some percentage reduction
in the amount of Carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere.

Generally, white and bright colors use up to 20 percent more power than dark or
black colors. Unfortunately, word processors and email tend to use white
backgrounds, which mean more power is consumed each day while using these programs.
According to Wattoogle, if everyone changes the color scheme of the monitor to black
they will save a considerable amount of energy each day. To prove this it has come
up with an interesting statistics -

"Google, the world's largest search engine gets about 200 million queries each day.
If each query lasts for at least 10 seconds, Google would run for nearly 550,000
hours every day at a white background consuming 74 watts of power for each search.
At the same time, if the search engine is shifted to a black background that would
save (74 - 59 = 15 watts). This means energy savings of 8.3 Megawatt-hours every day
and a whopping 3000 Megawatt-hours in a year. Now, if we take into account that
nearly 25% of monitors used worldwide are CRTs and it costs 10 cents per
kilowatt-hour, then $75,000 and a lot of energy can be saved just by simply shifting
to a black background"
